Hello there!

I’m a graphic designer and illustrator based in Kansas City.

Design

I work for a large local nonprofit, supporting the marketing team with graphic design and interdisciplinary work for our programs, events, fundraisers, and everyday services. I’m honored to be able to help support our communities.

Previously, I worked in web design, creating websites for Kansas City businesses as part of a talented team. My favorite project was designing the Kansas City Ballet’s website. My design experience also includes packaging and digital work with a gift cards company, marketing design in the hospitality industry, and design for a children’s science center.

I’m a graduate of Missouri State University and hold a dual degree in Graphic Design and Illustration with a minor in Art History and all the nerdy honors college extras. If you’d like to know more or to see a list of shows and publications, you can download my résumé.

Illustration

I love the craft of storymaking and illustrate everything from narrative fairytales to editorial pieces.

My first children’s book, “The All Saints’ Day Party” by Jerry Windley-Daoust, was published by Peanut Butter and Grace in 2017.

I primarily work in watercolors, graphite, gouache, and digital mediums. My personal work is full of quirky characters, floral embellishments, decorative lettering, and unnecessarily complex celtic knotwork.

Everything Else

I also run Shealynn’s Faerie Shoppe, a fairytale-inspired jewelry shop. Occasionally I also stock handpainted silks and various contraptions.

(Why Shealynn not Shaylynn? I was 13 when I started my shop and thought it would be oh-so-clever to use an old-fashioned version of my name. I got stuck with it and now even my best friends misspell my name.)

On a more personal note, I am from a large and nerdy family who taught me that science is the coolest subject and that board games are the ultimate form of competition.

I carry a thermos of tea or coffee with me everywhere and I read a lot of books because the world is a weird and wonderful place. On weekends you can find me hitting the trails on my unicycle.
